🎌 2021年、明けましておめでとうございます！2015年4月にスタートしました You can 2020 ですが、新型コロナで延期となったオリンピック開幕まで残すところ 7 ヶ月となりました。いよいよ本番間近ですが、延期された時間を有効活用しつつ、さらに語学に磨きをかけられるようなお手伝いをさせて頂ければと思います。
VOA の新しい Let’s Learn English シリーズ Level 2 の lesson 26 : Look-alikes です。look-alikes はそっくりさんのこと！Anna learns that someone at work looks a lot like her. But, who is this person? And what happens when they finally meet? アナは職場によく似た人がいると知ります。が、一体誰でしょう？二人が出会うとどうなるのでしょうか！(youcan2020.comへ)
今回のテーマは人を描写し比較する方法 Ways to describe and compare people です。このようなたわいもない会話が聞き取れるようになってくると日常会話が楽しくなってきます。
1 I met a woman who looks just like you. 君によく似た女性にあったよ！
2 No one is this handsome. こんなハンサムはいないよな！ * this は自分を指します。
3 Are you making fun of me? 私をからかってるの？
4 Her face looks likeyours. 彼女の顔は君(の顔)に似てるよ！* yours はあなたの顔を指します。
5 She is very difficult. We look alike. 彼女はとても気難しい！私たちはよく似ている。 * difficult はここでは 頑固な、理性的でない stubborn or unreasonable の意味です。
6 She’s not nervous or shy. She’s mean. 彼女は神経質でも恥ずかしがり屋でもない。不愉快なやつだ。* mean はケチな、意地悪な、ひどい、不愉快ななどなど！
7 You may be childish. You look stupid. 君は子供っぽいかも！君はバカみたいだよ！
8 You look serious. Evilana is an awful person! 君は真面目だ！エビルアナはひどいやつだ！
今回は、更に come と fall についてみてみましょう。come 来る、fall 落ちる！この意味をご存じない方はおられないでしょう。これに前置詞がくっつくだけで多様な意味に使えるのです。難しい単語の代わりをしてくれます。
まずは come からです。動画で例文を確認してください。
1 come across= to find something by accident 偶然見つける 2 come along= to acompany someone * 誰かについて行く、これが along の感覚です。 3 come back= to return 戻ってくる 4 come off= something becomes separated or unstuck 剥がれる 5 come on= ①exclamation or encouragement 誰かを勇気つけるための大丈夫だよ！ ②to stop doing ridiculous バカなことをするのを止めさせる
6 come out= to appear 出て来るという感じです。 7 come over= to come to someone’s house 誰かのうちに行く 8 come through= to produce or to deliver a result 持ち直す 9 come up= to appear 予期しない不都合や難問が現れる 10 come up with= to create or invent something でっち上げる
次は fall の phrasal verbs です。
1 fall apart= ①literally to break into pieces バラバラになる ②to become emotionally upset 感情的に動揺する 2 fall back= to retreat, to go back 軍が退却する 3 fall back on= to have the option to use something else, to use a second option 上手くいかない時の back -up plan を持つ 4 fall behind= not to make sufficient progress 予定より遅れる 5&6 fall down/ fall over= to fall to the ground 地面に倒れる、落ちる
7 fall for= ①to fall in love 恋に落ちる ②to believe a lie or a srory 嘘や作り話を信じる 8 fall off= to detach from a bigger object 何かから落ちる 9 fall out= ①something accidentally goes out of some enclosed space 狭い場所からはみ出して落ちる、歯が抜ける ②to have an argument with someone 議論する、言いあうa falling out は名詞形で言い合いのこと 10 fall through= to be unsuccessful 失敗する 手の平から落ちる感じです。

1 put away= to place an object in its proper location *本来の場所に戻すイメージです。
2 put back= to return an object to the location where it came from *こちらは元あった場所に戻すイメージです。
3 put down= ①to write a piece of paper 書き留める ②to criticize and humiliate someone 恥をかかせる ③to kill animal that is old, sick, or suffering *弱っている動物を殺すという使い方があります。
4 put forth/ put forward= to offer an idea, plan, or proposal 提案する * forth も forward も前方への感覚です。
5 put off= ①to delay doing something or to procrastinate グズグズする ②to make a bad impression 不快にさせる *例文で頭に入れてください。
6 put on= ①to start wearing 身に着ける ②to produce a show 上演する ③to trick or decieve someone 騙す ④kidding or joking からかう
7 put out= ①to extinguish fire, to turn out 火などを消す ②to publish a regular publication 出版する ③to inconvenience someone 決まり悪くする
8 put through= to transfer or connect someone on the telephone 電話を回す、つなぐ
9 put someone up= ①to give someone a place to stay at your home 誰かを自分の家に泊める ②to encourage or pursuade someone to do mischievous 悪戯などをけしかける
10 put up with= to tolerate 我慢する
動詞 put の意味は単に「置く」ですが 、前置詞がくっつくとこんなにもたくさんの意味に増えます。例文をよく聞いて自分のものにしてください。

注意点はただ一つだけ！副詞の位置です。簡単なようで使いこなすには慣れが必要です。
◯ She read the letter carefully. 目的語の後は◯です。 ◯ She carefully read the letter. 動詞の前も◯です。 ✖️ She read carefully the letter. その間は✖️です。この感覚に慣れてください。

1 New Year’s Resolutions新年の誓い a promise you make to yourself to change a bad behavior or accomplish a goal in the new year：例文 My new year’s resolution is to speak more English at work. * to keep a resolution or to break a resolution も同時に覚えましょう！
2 fewer hands are going up より少ない手が上がってる → 前より手が上がらないわね！*few は可算名詞に使われ、その比較級が fewer です。
3 get around はグズグスする to procrastinate, to be lazy, to finally do something that you’ve intended to do for a long time. の意味になります。前置詞 around は同じところをグルグル回っている感じを表します。
例文 I finally got around to finishing that book you gave me last year.
* 出来るだけ先延ばしする procrastinate の例文です。The funny thing is that Ellen procrastinated her resolution to stop procrastinating. エレンは先延ばしはやめようという誓いを先延ばしした！
4 keep someone busyどうでもいいことをやらせる to give someone things to do. 例文 I tried to keep myself busy reading so I wouldn’t get bored. 本でも読もう！退屈しないように！と努めた。
5 come up with考えや言い訳などを思いつく to invent, develop or think of something です。例文 You can come up with a name for a child.
6 hungover二日酔い the state in which you are after drinking too much *名詞でも動詞でも使えます！例文 the best hangover cure is a Bloody Mary.
7 hypothetical は起こるかもしれない仮定の意味：例文 Can ask you a hypothetical question? What would we do on our trip if we get sick? *発音はハイポセティカルです。
8 jeez ジーズと読みます。*驚き、怒り、迷惑などに！used to express feelings such a surprise, anger, annoyance, etc.
9 keep up with遅れないようについて行く、間に合うように手当てする to do anything necessary to be able to accomplish something at the desired or ideal speed
10 have faith in someone何かやってくれそうな人だと信用する to trust someone will do something：例文 I have faith in you I know you will try your best. * Ellen は a little more faith in me といっていますので、私のこともう少し信用してくれてもいいのよ！と笑いを誘っています。
11 quit men男を断つの意味です。* we commonly use quit with vices and bad habits like quit smoking or quit drinking. ということのようです。バイス vice とは bad habit のことです。つまり女性が男を断つというとその女性にとっては男が悪い癖ということになるので jokeとして面白いのです。
12 anything short of my own death自分の死に勝るものはない She means that her death is the only thing that would stop her from watching the show. * short は短いというより足りないという感じです。死ぬまでやめられない！という感覚が出てます。
13 have priority in order優先順位をつけて * if you go on a shopping spree while knowing that you don’t have enough money to pay your bills or buy food. It means that you don’t have your priorities in order. spree とは散財、じゃんじゃん買いまくることです。
14 good for you相手の合格や成功に「頑張ってね」という意味です。例文 You passed your exam. Good for you! * an expression of approval or support for someone success だそうです。
これだけ勉強してもう一度最初から skit を聴いてみてください。断然聴こえ方が違うと思います。

今日は take を使った phrasal verbs です。次の動画を参考に、基本的な使い方をおさらいして、使えるようにしましょう！
1 take out は ① 食べ物などを持ち帰る to take out food の意味。they ask if you want to eat in or take out. ② 何かを取り出す You have a turkey in the oven. You take it out of the oven. ③ スラングで殺す to assassinate, to kill という意味になります。If you want to take someone out, you kill them.
2 take in は ① 衣服の裾などを入れ込む意味。You might want to take in your shirt. ② take it in で引き取る、養子にする to adopt, to accept の意味になります。You take it into your house, you give it a home, it’s part of the family.
3 take over の意味は ① 乗っ取る to assume control of something です。I can take over your company. 次に ② 交代する to switch の意味があります。Can you teke over the driving?
4 take upは ① 何かを始める to start something の意味です。Recently I took up Spanish. 次に ② 〇〇に持ち込むtake up with someone となると Take this problem up with your teacher. となります。
5 take after は ① 模範にする：I take after my mother. My sister takes after my father. 次に ② 似る to look like：My sister’s a very hot-tempered woman, so she takes after him. のように使われます。
6 take back は ① 返す to give it back：I lend you my pen. You use it. You finished. I take it back. ② 約束などを撤回する to cancel： If I said something that made you upset and I take it back. のように使われます。*ゴルフの take back もお忘れなく！
7 take off はよくご存知の ① 離陸する：The airplane takes off. 次に ② うまく行く、成功する to be very successful or very quickly to do well と使われます。Suddenly the business just takes off.
8 take on は ① 挑戦する to try to do：I will take it on. I’ll challenge it. ② take someone on で対抗する、闘うto confront, to fight ：I’m fed up. I’ll take him on. * 相手をリングに引っ張り出す感じでしょうか！
9 take downは ① やっつける to beat someone up：He takes me down to the ground and I’m beaten. ② 書き留める to write, to note：Take down the most important information.
10 take toは ① 誰かと関係を有している to have a sort of connection with someone：② 〇〇を〇〇に持っていくto take something to someone などの意味があります。So I’m going to take this pen to the other room.
11 take someone under your wing というイディオムで弟子のように保護する、支援するという意味になります。to take someone as an apprentice or as a protégé. となっています。

3 How I selected this music was that Tom gave me a few options and I selected Beautiful Storm among those.
4 The costume was made with me giving some ideas for colors and feel and once I got a few drawings. I was able to make my choice.
5 The highlight of the program is the choreographic sequence. The choreography there is very cool and unusual, and I liked a lot.

1 look up は先ず見上げる to see the skyという意味です。to look up at the sky. 次いで調べる to get the meaning of the word の意味になります。look up in the dictionary その次 3 番目の意味が情勢が好転するのを見守る to start to be more positive です。You can look up the situation changing. 4 つ目の意味が尊敬する to respect の意味です。Look up to your parents.
2 look down は見下ろす to look down in the ground が第一の意味で、次いで look up の反対、見下すという意味があります。You look down on them.
3 look over は文字通り見渡すの意味。 I could look over the fence. 第 2 の意味がチェックする to check です。I wrote an essey. I want him to look it over and check it.
4 look in on は気をつける to keep an eye out for somebody です。Please look in on my plants. 世話をする look after とは少し違います。
5 look after は世話をする to take care of ですが、Look after my dog. のようにもう少し世話の度合いが高まります。Look in my dog. とはいいません。
6 look through は詳しく調べる、入念にチェックする to inspect, to look for detailed things です。look over に少し似ていますが、チェックの度合いがより詳しくなります。police が調べるのは、look through です。They looked through the garbage. 前述の look over はざっとチェックする to skim it very quickly くらいの感覚です。
7 look into はまさに調査する to investigate です。I’m going to look into the problem.
8 look out は気を付ける to be careful, to be aware です。Look out! 次に look out for となると何かが起こりそうな時のちょっと見て！to pay attention to です。
9 look around は文字通り見回す to move your eyes around the place, to brouse, to really look to buy anything です。Can I help you? No, I’m just looking aroud.
