さて第2部 最後の第17章の私の付けたタイトルは Kathy wants the training to become a carer! テープと架空動物の絵を巡り Ruth と Tommy との関係もぐしゃぐしゃとなり、Kathy は介護人になる決断をします。
①私が決心したのは、それから程なくです。一度決心したらもう揺らぐことはありません。私は介護人の訓練を始めたいと伝えました。It’s wasn’t long after that I made my decision and once I’d made it, I never wavered. I just got up one morning and told Keffers I want to start my training to become a carer.
②Ruthとの間に一定の距離を保ち続けました。Tommy とも同様です。 I kept a certain distance from her, just as I did from Tommy.
③ある日気がつくと、私は全員にさよならを言っていました。And before I knew it, I was saying my goodgyes.
さて第2部 第16章まできました。タイトルは Tommy’s big Gallery theory! としました。折角 Tommy に買ってもらった思い出の Bridgewater のテープですが、Tommy が描き溜めている空想の動物の絵とも絡んで Ruth との関係が不味くなってしまいます。
①ガチョウ小屋と呼んでいた納屋がコテージの縁にありました。The barn we called the Goosehouse was on the outer fringes of the Cottages.
②次の瞬間、ルスの手にあのブリッジウオーターのテープがありました。永遠とも言える時間が過ぎて、ルスが言いました。「それで？いつからここにあったのよ」Then, the Judy Bridgewater tape was in her hands. After what seemed an eternity, she said: ‘So how long have you had this again?’
③泣き出しそうだったわけでも、癇癪玉が破裂しかかったわけでもありません。ただ、二人に背を向けて、立ち去ることに決めました。It’s wasn’t that I thought I’d burst into tears or lose my temper or anything like that. But, I decided just to turn and go.
④どうぞお好きなように。何があったって知らない。 いい気味だわ。They were suffering a fate they thoroughly deserved.
友情、嫉妬、男女の関係、脆くて、微妙ですね！クローンの世界でも同じです。

さて第2部 第15章まできました。私のつけたタイトルは A present from Tommy! トミーが一緒に探してくれたのは、ずっと昔に Kathy がなくした ‘Judy Bridgewater. Songs After Dark‘ のテープでした。他方、絵が苦手だった、あの Tommy が架空の動物を描き続けていることを打ち明けます。その目的は？理由は？
①いま、あの時のことを思い出すと、胸に暖かさと懐かしさがこみ上げてきます。When I think of that moment now, I feel a warmth welling up through me.
②突然世界の手触りが優しくなりました。1時間もの待ち時間にあれ以上の過ごし方があったでしょうか。Everything suddenly felt perfect: an hour set aside, stretching ahead of us, and there wasn’t a better way to spend it.
③ そして、もちろん、それ (テープ) を見つけました。Then of course I found it.
④万一を思ってやっていることがあるんだ。まだ誰にも言っていない。ルスにもな。始めたばかりだから。‘Actually, Kath,’ he said, ‘I have been doing some stuff. Just in case, I haven’t told anyone, not even Ruth. It’s just a start.’
⑤トミーの架空の動物のことを聞いたのはその時が初めてでした。Thant was when I first heard about his imaginary animals.
二人はようやくお互いの行動や考え方を確かめ合うことができ、いい雰囲気が生まれます。

Lesson 15 “Before and After” のあらすじです。Anna hires a trainer to get back into shape. Her trainer does not read her application carefully. So, he offers her a workout program that she does not enjoy. アナはシェイプアップのためにトレーナーを雇いますが、トレーナーはアナの申請書をよく読んでいなかったようです。彼女はあまり楽しくない運動プログラムを提供されますが！
*今回は adverb clause 副詞節！というと難しい響きですが、before, after, when, because, since, if and even though などが使えるようになると表現の幅が膨らみます。スペイン語でも同じです。antes, después, cuando, porque, desde, si y aunque で会話も中級です。
①After you fill out an online application, they will match you to the perfect trainer.オンラインで申し込んだ後、完璧なトレーナーを見つけてくれます。
②Because I’m from Alaskan wilderness, I’m skilled in all outdoor activities of the wild.私はアラスカ荒野出身なので、全てのアウトドアー活動が得意です。
③After our training, you will be ready for any extreme physical challenge.トレイニングの後、いかなる身体強化も大丈夫でしょう！
④Even though you’re trying really hard, you’re really bad at Call of the Wild Parkour.たとえいくら頑張っても、ワイルドポーカーは無理でしょう！
⑤If you follow my advice, I’ll put the speed back in your speed walk.もし私のアドバイスに従ってもらえたら、早歩きスピードに戻してあげましょう！
Lesson 14 “Made for Each Other!(お互いのために作られた存在!)” のあらすじです。Pete and Ashley have found perfect partners. Anna says she has a new boyfriend but Pete and Ashley don’t believe her. Is he real or not? ピィトとアシュレイは完璧なパートナーを見つけました。アナは新しいボーイフレンドができたと言いましたが、信じていません。
*「私もそうです！」肯定文を肯定する時、否定文を否定する時の言い方です。慣れてしまえばなんともないのですが！so の後では be 動詞や助動詞の語順が変わります。
①She can’t whistle andI can’t either. 私も口笛ができません。
②I don’t like ball sports and he doesn’t either. 私も球技が嫌いです。
③My family is big andso is his. 彼も大家族です。
④You have found perfect partners andso have I. 私も完璧なパートナーを見つけました。
⑤He’s good at flying kites and so am I. 私も凧揚げが得意です。
⑥He likes to read comics andso do I. 私も漫画を読むのが好きです。
⑦I can play the ukulele andso can he. 彼もウクレレが弾けます。
さて今回は第2部第13章です。私のつけたタイトルは The rumour about deferrals! です。Kathy ら 5 人は初めての遠出で、初めて小さな喫茶店に入ります。提供の延期、猶予が話題になります。男女が本当に愛し合っていれば数年の猶予が認められるという噂です。
①喫茶店に入るのは初めてだったので他と比較もできなかったのですが、小さな喫茶店でした。I didn’t have anything to compare it (the Café) with at the time, but I realize now the café was tiny.
②ヘールシャムの生徒には、ある特別な条件をクリアーして、猶予期間をもらった子がいるそうです。Some Hailsham students in the past, in special circumstances, had managed to get a deferral.
③男の子と女の子がいて、二人が愛し合っていて、本当に心底愛し合っていて、それを証明できれば、猶予が与えられる！If you were a boy and a girl, and you were in love with each other, really, properly in love, and if you could show it, then they sorted it (a deferral) out for you.
④猶予の噂を聞いたのは、実は私もこの時が初めてではありませんでした。This wasn’t the first time I’d come across the rumour about deferrals.
Lesson 13 “Save the Bees!(蜂を救え!)” のあらすじです。Last time, Anna went to visit a home beekeeper. She was nervous. Does Anna go into the hive? Or will she continue to live in fear of bees? 前回からの続きです。アナは養蜂家を訪ねますが、緊張しています。彼女は蜂の巣箱に入れるでしょうか？それとも怖がったままでしょうか？
*if 節の復習です。①Type 1：if + 現在形, +will：use the present tense and “will” と②Type 2：if + 過去形, +would : use the past tense and “would” です。
①If they don’t eat, they won’t live. もし蜂達も食べないと生きることができないであろう。
②If I wanted to help the bees, what would I do? 蜂を助けるとするなら何ができるだろう！
①If you want to help bees, do those two things. 蜂を助けたいのなら二つのことをやりなさい。
①If you ever want to seethe bees again, I’ll be here!もしまた蜂を見たくなったら私はここにいますよ。
①If I you want tolearn more about bees, visit your local beekeeper like Anna did. もしもっと蜂について学びたいならアナがやったように近くの養蜂家を訪ねなさい。
①If you practice,you will become better at them.もし練習すれば、もっと勉強できるよ。

* if の Type 1 conditionals have a real event, and a result that probably will happen. Chances are good.：if 節が現在形の事実で、主節が未来形なら、その結果は多分起こります。そして期待された結果はいいことばかりです。
1 If you talk to her,she’ll probably help you get over your fear of bees. もし彼女と話せば、多分君の蜂恐怖症を取り除いてくれるだろう！
2 If you look in my backyard,you will see my bees! もし私の庭を見れば、私の蜂が理解できるでしょう！
