前回の続きです。米国大統領の空席、罷免に関する合衆国憲法修正第25条 Amendment XXV は今年の最重要時事単語！スペイン語でも確認しておきましょう！トランプ大統領が自発的に辞任するというシナリオはないかもしれませんが、副大統領が上下両院と協力してトランプ大統領の権限執行不能を宣言することは可能だという道が開かれています。

第3節：大統領の自発的引退宣言 (Presidential declaration, Declaración presidencial)
①大統領が、その職務上の権限と義務の遂行が不可能であるという文書による申し立てを上院臨時議長および下院議長に送付する時、大統領がそれに反対の申し立ての文書を送付するまでの間、副大統領が大統領代理として大統領職の権限と義務を遂行する。

①When the President transmits a written declaration to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, stating that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of the Presidency, and until the President sends another written declaration to the aforementioned officers declaring himself able to resume discharging those powers and duties, the Vice President discharges those powers and duties as Acting President.

①Cuando el Presidente transmita una declaración escrita al Presidente pro tempore (臨時の) del Senado (上院) y al Presidente de la Cámara de Representantes (下院), declarando que no puede cumplir (遂行する) con los poderes y deberes de la Presidencia, y hasta que el Presidente envíe otra declaración (申し立て) escrita a la mencionada anteriormente oficiales que se declaran capaces de reanudar el desempeño (遂行) de esos poderes y deberes, el Vicepresidente ejerce esos poderes y deberes como Presidente en funciones (大統領代理).

第4節：副大統領と議会による自発的でない引退申し立て (Vice Presidential–Cabinet declaration, Declaración vicepresidencial y del gabinete)
②副大統領が行政各部の長官、閣僚の過半数と共に、上院の臨時議長および下院議長に対し、大統領が職務上の権限と義務を遂行することができない旨の文書による申し立てを送付することにより、 副大統領は直ちに大統領代理として大統領職の権限と義務を遂行する。

①Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution

①Vigésima quinta (第25番目の) enmienda (修正)  a la Constitución (憲法) de los Estados Unidos (米国)  

第1節：大統領職の継承 (Presidential succession, sucesión presidencial)
②大統領が免職、死亡、辞職した場合には、副大統領が大統領となる。

②When a President is removed from office, dies, or resigns. In any of these situations, the Vice President immediately becomes President.

②Cuando un presidente (大統領) es destituido (免職した), muere (死んだ) o renuncia (辞職した). En cualquiera de estas situaciones, el Vicepresidente (副大統領) se convierte inmediatamente en Presidente. *convertirse en 〇〇で「〇〇になる」の意。

合衆国憲法修正第25条：Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution

第1節：大統領職の継続 (Presidential succession)
When a President is removed from office, dies, or resigns. In any of these situations, the Vice President immediately becomes President. 大統領が免職、死亡、辞職した場合には、副大統領が大統領となる。

第2節：副大統領の空席 (Vice Presidential vacancy)

さて第2部 第16章まできました。タイトルは Tommy’s big Gallery theory! としました。折角 Tommy に買ってもらった思い出の Bridgewater のテープですが、Tommy が描き溜めている空想の動物の絵とも絡んで Ruth との関係が不味くなってしまいます。

①ガチョウ小屋と呼んでいた納屋がコテージの縁にありました。The barn we called the Goosehouse was on the outer fringes of the Cottages.

②次の瞬間、ルスの手にあのブリッジウオーターのテープがありました。永遠とも言える時間が過ぎて、ルスが言いました。「それで？いつからここにあったのよ」Then, the Judy Bridgewater tape was in her hands. After what seemed an eternity, she said: ‘So how long have you had this again?’

③泣き出しそうだったわけでも、癇癪玉が破裂しかかったわけでもありません。ただ、二人に背を向けて、立ち去ることに決めました。It’s wasn’t that I thought I’d burst into tears or lose my temper or anything like that. But, I decided just to turn and go. 

④どうぞお好きなように。何があったって知らない。 いい気味だわ。They were suffering a fate they thoroughly deserved.

友情、嫉妬、男女の関係、脆くて、微妙ですね！クローンの世界でも同じです。

さて第2部 第15章まできました。私のつけたタイトルは A present from Tommy! トミーが一緒に探してくれたのは、ずっと昔に Kathy がなくした ‘Judy Bridgewater. Songs After Dark‘ のテープでした。他方、絵が苦手だった、あの Tommy が架空の動物を描き続けていることを打ち明けます。その目的は？理由は？

①いま、あの時のことを思い出すと、胸に暖かさと懐かしさがこみ上げてきます。When I think of that moment now, I feel a warmth welling up through me. 

②突然世界の手触りが優しくなりました。1時間もの待ち時間にあれ以上の過ごし方があったでしょうか。Everything suddenly felt perfect: an hour set aside, stretching ahead of us, and there wasn’t a better way to spend it.

③ そして、もちろん、それ (テープ) を見つけました。Then of course I found it.

④万一を思ってやっていることがあるんだ。まだ誰にも言っていない。ルスにもな。始めたばかりだから。‘Actually, Kath,’ he said, ‘I have been doing some stuff. Just in case, I haven’t told anyone, not even Ruth. It’s just a start.’ 

⑤トミーの架空の動物のことを聞いたのはその時が初めてでした。Thant was when I first heard about his imaginary animals.

二人はようやくお互いの行動や考え方を確かめ合うことができ、いい雰囲気が生まれます。

①ロドニーの協力がなければ、私たちだけでポジブル探しはできません。Without Rodney’s co-operation there wasn’t much that could be done anyway. 

②でも、最後の最後で見つかりました。But, then we found it.

③ちょっとした探偵ごっこだったと思えばいい。Just a bit of fun.

④私たちの親はね、クズなのよ。ヤク中にアル中、売春婦に浮浪者、犯罪者だっているかもしれない。We all know it. We’re modelled from trush, Junkies, prostitutes, winos, tramps.

⑤『すみません。あなたのお友達はクローン人間の元でしょうか』‘Excuse me, but do you think your friend was ever a clone model?’

⑥二手に分かれるんだったらキャスに付き合う。If we’re splitting, then I’ll stay with Kath.　

この後、グループは別れ、Kathy は Tommy の二人が残ることになり、新たな展開が始まります。

さて今回は第2部第13章です。私のつけたタイトルは The rumour about deferrals! です。Kathy ら 5 人は初めての遠出で、初めて小さな喫茶店に入ります。提供の延期、猶予が話題になります。男女が本当に愛し合っていれば数年の猶予が認められるという噂です。

①喫茶店に入るのは初めてだったので他と比較もできなかったのですが、小さな喫茶店でした。I didn’t have anything to compare it (the Café) with at the time, but I realize now the café was tiny.

②ヘールシャムの生徒には、ある特別な条件をクリアーして、猶予期間をもらった子がいるそうです。Some Hailsham students in the past, in special circumstances, had managed to get a deferral.

③男の子と女の子がいて、二人が愛し合っていて、本当に心底愛し合っていて、それを証明できれば、猶予が与えられる！If you were a boy and a girl, and you were in love with each other, really, properly in love, and if you could show it, then they sorted it (a deferral) out for you.

④猶予の噂を聞いたのは、実は私もこの時が初めてではありませんでした。This wasn’t the first time I’d come across the rumour about deferrals.　

クローン達も提供の時期が迫ってくるとどうにかして猶予がもらえないのか気になり出します。たとえそれが微かな望み、希望であっても！

①ノーフォークへの旅とその日に起こったことをお話ししましょう！I want to talk about the Norfolk trip, and all the things that happened that day.

②ポシブルの理屈自体は単純で、特に問題となるような要素はありません。The basic idea behind the possibles theory was simple, and didn’t provoke much dispute.

③私たちはそれぞれに、ある時、普通の人間から複製された存在です。Since each of us was copied at some point from a normal person. 

④「親」は赤ん坊かもしれないし、老人かもしれない。年齢は無関係だ。They could have used babies, old people, what different would it have made?

⑤そもそも、なぜ自分の「親」を探したいのかという問題もありました。Then there were those questions about why we wanted to track down our modals at all.

⑥最後には、５人全員で行くことになりました。In the end, thouth, we all went , the five of us: Chrissie, Rodney, Ruth, Tommy and me.

クローン達もやはり自分の親がどんな人か、健康でいてくれるのか知りたいようですね。彼らの運命がとても切なく思えてきます。普通の日常の大切さ、家族との生活の日常こそが貴重なのですね。

VOA の新しい Let’s Learn English シリーズ Level 2 の lesson 12 です！このレッスンは if + will と if + would の用法の復習です！簡単な表現を確実に言えるようにすること！繰り返し繰り返しが大事です！

Lesson 12 “Run! Bees! (逃げろ!蜂だ!)” のあらすじです。Anna is afraid of bees. Her friend Kaveh tells her to talk with Caroline, a beekeeper and bee educator. Will Anna fight her fear and learn to love bees? アナは蜂が怖いのです。友人のケイブは養蜂家のキャロラインと話すよう勧めます。アナは怖さを克服し、蜂を好きになれるでしょうか？

* if の Type 1 conditionals have a real event, and a result that probably will happen. Chances are good.：if 節が現在形の事実で、主節が未来形なら、その結果は多分起こります。そして期待された結果はいいことばかりです。

1 If you talk to her, she’ll probably help you get over your fear of bees. もし彼女と話せば、多分君の蜂恐怖症を取り除いてくれるだろう！

2 If you look in my backyard, you will see my bees! もし私の庭を見れば、私の蜂が理解できるでしょう！

3 If you come, I’ll show you.もし君がくれば、見せてあげよう！

* if の Type 2 conditionals have a possible event and a result that may or may not happen. We don’t know. ： if 節が過去形ならありえそうな事実で、主節が would や could なら、その結果は多分起こらないことか、わからないことです。

5 If all the bees died, there would be no food. もし蜂が死滅したら、食料がなくなってしまうだろう！

6 If you ignore it, it will fly away(Type 1). But if you swat it, it might sting you (Type 2).  もし蜂を無視すれば、飛んで行ってしまうだろう。でも蜂をピシャッとしようとすれば、刺されるだろう。

7 If you hit a beehive with a stick and reach inside, you might get stung.もし君が蜂の巣を棒で叩いて中を触ろうとすると、刺されるだろう。

次の VOA も併せてみてください。Prof. Bot の解説は明快です。文法の授業は難しいですが、結局、話者の感情で現在形と未来形か、過去形と仮定形を決めるのです。この感覚はスペイン語であっても同様です。条件法を使うか可能法を使うかの感覚です。文法に邪魔されないようにしたいものです。
