毎日使える簡単 phrasal verbs ⑤

phrasal verbs の数は無限といってもいいほどたくさんあります。必ず例文の形で覚えるのがオススメです。しかも自分が使うものだけを増やしていくことが大事です。(youcan2020.comへ)

あまりの多さに圧倒されますが、基本動詞毎に自分の知っている phrasal verbs を把握すると案外知っているんだなあと自信になってきます。act, back, break, bring, call, carry, come, catch, fall, fill, find, get, go, hold, let, look, pay, pick, put, run, set, show, take, turn, walk, write, work などの基本動詞を中心に見直すことで自信が付きます。どうやって整理するかというと YouTube などの動画を利用するのが簡単です。

先ず手始めに一つ動画を見てみましょう！turn を使った  phrasal verbs です。たった一つの turn という動詞の phasal verbs だけで 20 個以上の色々な意味で使えるようになれるのです。

1 to turn on は家電 appliances の灯りをつけたり、スイッチを入れることですが、スラング slang で興奮させる to get someone excited の意味があります。名詞形は turn-on です。Her summer dress is a turn-on for a lot of guys. Something turns you on. It gets you excited. Men can turn on women. You can turn on a teacher. 

2 to turn off も単に灯りを消す以外に沢山の意味があります。名詞形は turnoff でハイフンです。誰かの関心を削ぐ to make someone lose interest or excitement という意味になります。

3 to turn up (down) はボリュームの上げ下げですが、他には何かが現れてくるというイメージから何かを発見するという意味になります。A interesting information turns up. Something I wasn’t expected. また、現れる、やってくる to appear の意味もあります。I invited a lot of people to my party, but twice as many turned up.

4 to turn over は玉子焼きのようにひっくり返すという意味ですが、レストランなどの客の回転 to rotale などに使われます。A good restaurant must have a high turnover.

5 to turn around は単に体を回す、振り返るの他に、気が変わる to change one’s mind の意味になります。 Last week my boss agreed to give me a raise, but this week he turned around and not to.

6 to turn in は手渡す、提出する to hand in, to submit ですが、収監するの意味もあります。You turn him in the police. また、眠る to go to sleep の意味もあります。Oh I’m tired. I think I’ll turn in goodnight.

7 to turn to は〇〇になるという意味で to turn your friends or your family のように使われます。It’s very important to have people to turn to at heart in hard times. 

8 to turn out の意味は押し出す to push outside ですが、結果を出す to result、usually accidental result の意味でも使われます。ですが、名詞形の turnout は全く意味が異なり、出席者 attendance の意味です。The turnout was great.

9 最後に to turn down に戻りますが、拒絶する to reject  の意味で使われます。I asked her out for a date and she turned me down. Maybe I turned her off.

確かに phrasal verbs には色々な意味があるのですが、一緒にくっついている前置詞 (副詞) 本来の意味をイメージすることにより想像力を発揮して少しづつ攻略していきましょう。わざと使ってみて外国人に通じるか試してみるのも面白いと思います。

phrasal verbs の勉強は面倒臭い！いくらやってもキリがないほど多い！覚えようとしてもすぐに忘れてしまう！色々な意味があってこんがらがると思っている人！多いと思います！先ずは次の動画をじっくりとご覧ください。無理なく基本的な phrasal verbs を身につけられるヒントが一杯です。(youcan2020.comへ)

phrasal verbs を使いこなすこつは、 ① transient or intransient (他動詞的に使われるか、自動詞的に使われるか)と ② separable or inseparable (動詞と前置詞 (副詞)の間に目的語を入れられるかどうか否か)を意識し、自分にとって重要で、日常生活の中で目にする phrasal verbs だけを例文とともに攻略していくことだそうです。

14 色々な意味がある put down：⑴ to place something down on the ground (地面に置く) ⑵ to humiliate or criticize someone (けなす、批判する) ⑶ to kill an animal that was sick or suffering (病気の動物を殺す)

15 go out：to leave your house (家を出る) 16 go after (that job)：try to get something (手にする) 17 go together：to associate (付き合う)、compatible (両立する) 18 go away：to leave a place (離れる) 19 hang out with (friends)：to spend time in particular place with particular people (ぶらつく)

20 look after (my nephew)：to take care of someone (世話をする) 21 bring together：to introduce two people to each other (紹介する) 22 put (something) away：to put something in a place (ある場所に置くのほか、監獄に入れる、お金を貯める、たくさん食べるなど色々な意味がある)  23 look up to (inseparable)：to respect someone (尊敬する) 24 grow up：to mature (成長する)

25 come over (intrasitive)：to visit someone (訪ねる) 26 come over (transitive)：if a strong feeling comes over someone,  they suddenly experience it. (強い感情に打たれる) 例文：A wave of sleepiness came over me.

27 take on：to become responsible for (責任を負う) 28 give up：to stop doing something (やめる) 29 put up：to make available for sale (販売用に並べるのほかにも色々な意味がありますので調べてみてください) 30 put up with (something)：to accept an unpleasant situation (我慢する)

31 get on (the bus)：(バスに乗る) 32 take off (in the plane)：(離陸する) 33 pick up (the hire car)：(ハイヤーを拾う) 34 pack up (your suitcase)：(引き取る) 35 go out for (dinner)：(夕食に出かける) 36 take over (dinner)：to take control of something 37 clean up：to make something competely cearn (片付ける)

これまでに出てきた phrasal verbs を作る前置詞は、up, off, out, across, along, away です。about, after, at, above, around, back, by, down, in, into, to, out などは日本人の感覚に近いのでわかりやすいので問題ありませんが、on, forとover については単に「〜の上に」「〜のために」「〇〇を超えて」だけではありませんので注意が必要です！例文で確認しておきましょう！(youcan2020.comへ)

10 look for：to seek, to serch
for の意味は目的や目標をさす「ために」ですが、「〇〇に向かって」という方向や対象も指します。どちらも未来へ向かう感覚が大事です。look for で「探す」という意味になります。確かに目を使わないと探せません。例文：I’m looking for my dictionary. 辞書探してんのよ！

11 keep on, 12 go on：to continue
on は何かにくっ付いている感覚です。ですから天井にも、壁にも、床にもくっ付いている状態を指す前置詞です。ピタッと動かないので「ずっと同じ状態」を指す感覚が生まれ、keep on や go on となると「〇〇し続ける」という意味になります。例文：You have to keep on trying. やり続けないと！

13 take over：to succeed (後を継ぐ、後任となる)
 over は on と反対に少し離れて上にある状態のイメージです。above は接触していない真上を指します。take over 〇〇 で〇〇の仕事を取って代わるという感覚で「職務を引き継ぐ」といういう意味になります。例文：I took over the class from her. 彼女から担任を引き継いだ。

4 ask (someone) out：to invite someone on a date
out は「外へ」の感覚で ask out で「外へ行こうと頼む」すなわち「デートに誘う」という意味になります。
例文：Are you free? Can I ask you out?

5 back (someone) up：to support someone
up は「上へ」buck up で「後ろから支える、持ち上げる」という感覚です。すなわち、「誰かを応援する」という意味になります。
例文：I need you to back me up.

6 come across：to find something by chance
across は「横切って、斜めに」come across で「何かを越えてやってくる」の感覚から「偶然何かを見つける」という感覚を味わってください。
例文：I came across this website last night. It is very interesting.

7 do away：to discard, 8 throw away と同じ意味です。
away は「どこかから離れていく、遠くへ行く」感覚です。do away で「遠くにやる」感じで「捨てる」という意味になります。
例文：We should do away with these clothes.

9 get along：to like each other
along は「〇〇に沿ってずっと」という感覚です。状態を示すget にくっ付き「上手くやる、仲が良い」という感覚になります。よく使います。
例文：We get along very well.

語彙、表現力、コミュニケーション力を爆発的に増強するにはイディオム phrasal verbs を使いこなせるようになることが不可欠です。phrasal verbs とは動詞と前置詞 (副詞) の組み合わせで色々な意味に使える便利な動詞のことです。ですが、嫌になるほど a daunting inventory の種類の phrasal verbs があるのも事実です。(youcan2020.comへ)

1 get up や 2 put off の意味はご存知だと思いますが、「起きる」「延期する」と丸暗記するのではなく、前置詞 (副詞)の感覚をつかむことで飛躍的に上手く使いこなせるようになれます。

例えば、前置詞や副詞として使われる up の意味は「上の方へ」off は「〇〇から離れた」という感覚です。この感覚がわかれば、get up は「体を起こす」という感覚です。この感覚を日本語にすれば「起きる」となります。これがわかれば 3 wake up！ との違いも自然にわかります。この「起きろ」は目を覚ませという感覚です。まぶたが up すると覚えてもいいでしょう！

put off は「離れた別のところに置く」なので日程や予定を「延期する」という意味で使うことができます。今回からできる限りたくさんの phrasal verbs を攻略し、英会話能力を飛躍的に上達させていきましょう！

体の部位の続きです。外国人の友人や知り合いができると骨折、捻挫、筋肉痛等々の話題も頻繁に出てきます。1 度目を通しておけば、相手が言った時、こちらが言おうとした時にあれだなと思えます。すぐに出てこなくても良いのです。VoiceTra や GoogleTranlate ですぐに調べられますから！

英語で体や腕、足の部位の名前はパッと出てきますか！いつまで経っても、顔 face、腕 arm、手 hand、足 foot だけでは会話が続きません！最強の日常英会話をものにするためには一歩上のレベルの語彙を input することが不可欠です。そんなに多くはありません。
