例えば「今日は何曜日ですか？」は ¿Qué día es hoy? ですが ¿A qué día estamos?とも言えます。文字通り今日は何曜日ですか？と我々は何曜日にいますか？との違いです。今日の曜日は不変なので ser を使いますが、我々が何曜日にいるかとなると一時的な状態となるので estar を使うわけです。英語では What day of the week are we? とbe 動詞のみです。
もう一つ例をあげます。
英語で習った「私が時間通りに着くのは難しい」は It’s difficult for me to arrive on time. ですがスペイン語では Es difícil para mí llegar a tiempo.と ser を使います。時間通りに着くのが難しいわけでとても短い状態を指しているので estar のように思えますが、「時間通りに着くという事実が完全に難しい」と文法上は認識されるようで、ser が使われることになります。
「私はゴルフ」も「日曜はゴルフです」も「週末何するの？」と聞かれた答えとしてはどちらも正しい日本語です。他の料理は全て妻が作りましたがと前置きがあると「刺身は私です」も正しい日本語です。I’m golf. も Sunday is golf. もSashimi is I. では当然通じません！この辺りに外国語が苦手な日本人が多い原因があるのかもしれません。

*出だしの Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation. と最後の Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. は米国が大好きな人、米メジャーリーグの野球や NBAのバスケットボールが大好きな人は是非覚えておかれるといいと思います。
① 最初の Four score and seven years ago の score は 20 のことですので four score は 80 年、つまりこの演説の 87年前、1776年の独立から数えて87年目が 1863 年ということです。
② Four scoreand seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. は「87 年前、我々の先人たちはこの大陸に自由に溢れすべての人々が平等に扱われる一つの新しい国を作り出しました」となります。
③ 結びの Government of the people, by the people, for the people「人民の人民による人民のための政治」のところだけご存知の方が大半だと思いますが、そのあとに shall not perish from the earth と続きます。「この地球上からなくなることはない」となります。
