2017年ノーベル文学賞を受賞された Kazuo Ishiguro 氏の作品を読んでみたいと思われた人!本屋さんに駆け込むのもアマゾンから取り寄せるも良しですが、とりあえず YouTube の中を探してみました。映画化された作品で Nevet let me go が見つかりました。「私を離さないで」というドラマでも放送された作品です。
2010年に映画化されていますが Mark Romanek 監督による緑豊かな自然の中の幻想的な映像とNever let me go の曲の融合が素晴らしい！小説では味わえません。
人工的に作られた生命と我々の人生、どこが違うのでしょうか！長い人生と短い人生！どちらがより幸せで尊いのでしょうか！最初から最後まで暗〜い映画ですが、何故かため息をつきながらも誰かに話したくなるストーリーです。正にイシグロさんは “uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world”といえそうです。
内容は完全に理解できなくていいのです。どのレベルの方でも絶対に理解できる箇所がいくつも見つかるはずです。the first sitting president, the nation’s Founding Fathers, the Bill of Rights, the Little Sisters of the Poor, Mexico City Policy, Judeo-Christian values, National Day of Prayer, bedrock of American Life 等々の意味を調べながら読んでもらえればアメリカンスピリットを理解できると思います。

定冠詞の用法からですが、①話者が知ってるもの el coche de Pedro, las llaves de la oficina ②時間、曜日、色 el 9 de enero, el lunes, el azul ③抽象的なもの la cultura, el amor ④数えられない名詞 la leche ⑤パーセンテージ el 20 por ciento ⑥部分、残り la mayoría de jóvenes ⑦ 地理名 el Mediterraneo ⑧肩書き el señor Péres, el Rey de España ⑨公共機関 la Casa Blanca 等です。el agua のようないくつかの例外についての説明も入っています。
次に不定冠詞の用法ですが、①不特定、話者が知らないもの una parada de autobús ②いくつかのもの unas pinturas ③おおよその量 unas 40 personas 等が主なものです。
最後に冠詞がつかないものがあります。①数えられない名詞 No tengo dinero. ②年、季節、月 en primavera ③otro, ciento, medio, mil の後の名詞 otro trozo de tarta ④所有格の前 mi móvil ⑤職業 Mi padre es arquitecto.⑥名前 Ayer estuve con Maria.⑦都市、地方、大陸（例外あり) a Sudamérica ⑧よく使うcasa, claseの前 en clase ⑨特定の国名（例外あり）Francia, Europa 等々です。なお米国 Estados Unidos には定冠詞 los がついてもつかなくても OK です。

Lesson 3 のテーマは過去完了形 past perfect です。had + 過去分詞です。この形は過去の二つの出来事を区別するときに便利です。We talk about two things in the past, we can use the past perfect for the first event. Put “had” before the past participle.
