さて Lesson 29 : A long time ago! のあらすじです。Anna and Marsha have a lot of work to do. An advertisement makes them remember their childhood dreams. What do you think they wanted to be? アナとマァシャはやることが一杯。一つの広告が子供時代の夢を思いださせます。一体彼らは何になりたかったのでしょうか？身の上話を英語でして見ましょう！
① Let’s get to work.

② They played with dart guns. They played on the swings, the slide and the teeter-totter. But not me.
子供たちはダーツガンで遊んだり、ブランコや滑り台、それにシーソーで遊んだ。でも私はそうではなかった。*teeter-totter は シーソー seesaw のことです。

ちょっと前の映画の名作を You tube でたくさん見ることができます。一気に Tom Hunks の映画を見まくる binge-watchedというのはいかがですか！一挙に語彙力が増強されますよ！インターネット漬け hyperconected な 1 日になることと思いますが！
英語が話せない Tom が登場する Spielberg 監督の The Terminal という映画です。多分ご覧になった方も多いかと思います。英語が話せなくてもこれだけコミュニケーションが取れ、友達がたくさんでき、人を感動させることができるのです。この You Tube には字幕もありません！ちょっと listening に自信のない方は下の Wikipedia から次の plot を参考にして楽しんでください。 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Terminalです。
Plot
❶Viktor Navorski, a traveler from Krakozhia, arrives at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, only to find that his passport is suddenly no longer valid (突然無効になった) due to the sudden outbreak of a civil war (内戦) in his homeland.
❷As a result, the United States no longer recognizes Krakozhia as a sovereign nation (主権国家), and he is no longer permitted to either enter the country or return home as he is now considered to be stateless.
❸Due to his inability to communicate in proper English, the airport’s branch of the US Customs and Border Protection(税関と入管）seize both his passport and airline ticket, whereupon its temporary director, Frank Dixon, makes him stay in the terminal he came through.
❹Left with no other choice, Viktor decides to settle in at a closed off section of the terminal, Gate 67, with only his luggage and a peanut can, soon making a home out of it. Much to the frustration of Dixon, who is being considered for promotion to director of the US Customs branch, Viktor chooses not to break out of the terminal but wait patiently until he can legally enter the United States.
❺Dixon, who wants him to illegally (不法に) attempt to enter the country so he can deport (国外追放する)him, decides to try finding ways to make it difficult for him to survive in the terminal, slowly becoming obsessed in doing so.
❻During his initial days at the terminal, Viktor encounters and helps out a flight attendant named Amelia Warren after she slips on a wet floor and breaks the heel of her shoes, who assumes he is a contractor of sorts from the pager (ポケットベル) he was given by Customs but is surprised by his respectful kindness to her.
❼When Viktor is unable to secure himself some food after Dixon cuts him off from an avenue of money (お金を得る手段), his plight (苦境) is noticed by a food service worker at the airport, Enrique Cruz, who offers him food in exchange for helping in learning more about an immigration officer that he is infatuated with (夢中になっている), Dolores Torres.
❽After meeting with Amelia once again and wanting to take her out for a meal, Viktor begins improving his English while attempting to find work, and is soon hired by an airport contractor and paidunder the table (内緒で支払う) after he impulsively remodeled a wall at a gate that was scheduled for future renovation.
❾During this time, he also befriends some of Enrique’s friends whom he plays poker with, including a cargo handler named Joe Mulroy, and an Indian janitor (雑役夫) named Gupta Rajan, learning from the latter that he had come to the States in order to avoid being arrested for assaulting a corrupt police officer back in India in 1979.
➓When a Russian traveler creates a delicate situation when Customs try to remove (取り上げる) the medicine he is carrying for his father, Dixon is annoyed when Viktor, whom he uses to persuade the man to leave the medicine behind, claims he misheard his Krakozhian dialect for “father” as “goat” so the traveler can leave with them.

さて Lesson 27 : I can’t come intoday のあらすじです。Anna does not feel well. She calls her boss and her doctor. What do they tell her to do? And will she follow their advice? アナは体調が良くありません。上司とお医者さんに電話します。彼らはなんと言ったでしょうか？彼らの言うことを聞いたでしょうか？病気になった時の表現がたくさん出てきます。
① I am sick. Right now, I’m going to call my boss.
私は病気です。今、上司に電話します。
② I had the flu. インンフルエンザにかかった。 * have + 病名で「かかった」の意味が出ます。
③ I have a sore throat.
私は喉が痛い。*「痛い喉を持っている」という言い方になります。

I’m appointed to one of official Tokyo sightseeing volunteer. I came to Taishakuten Temple in Shibamata for the first time. The area around is full of Tora-san, famous Japanese comic movie hero. The shop owner of “*Lucky Golden Poo Charm” near Shibamata station knows everything about Taishakuten. Of course there are lots of golden poo here and there in the temple.
