今日は、前代未聞の大ニュース：Trump revokes security clearance for former CIA director「トランプ大統領が前 CIA 長官の機密情報接触権を剥奪」です。米国の話なのですが、我が国のお粗末な情報管理がますます心配になってきませんか？

15日、サンダース Sarah Sanders 大統領報道官は、トランプ大統領が、オバマ前政権で CIA 長官を務めたブレナン John Brennan 氏の機密情報へのアクセス権を剥奪したと発表しました。トランプ氏は他にも、オバマ政権時代のクラッパー James Clapper 前CIA 長官、ライス Susan Rice 前国連大使、ロシア疑惑をめぐり対立したコミー James Comey FBI 前長官らの権限剥奪をも検討しているとのことです。

① (トランプ側) Mr Brennan had engaged in “increasingly frenzied commentary” and abused his access to classified information by using it to “sow division and chaos”. ブレナン氏は「分裂や混乱を引き起こす」ために機密情報を乱用しており、「狂信的なコメントを繰り返し」てきた。

② (トランプ側) At this point in my administration, any benefits that senior officials might glean from consultations with Mr Brennan are now outweighed by the risks posed by his erratic conduct and behaviour. 現時点において、ブレナン氏との協議から得られたいかなる利益よりも、彼の常軌を逸した行為や行動によりもたらされた危険性の方が大きかった。* senior officials は「政府の高官」のことです。

③ (ブレナン氏側) This action is part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics. It should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out. My principles are worth far more than clearances. I will not relent. (トランプ氏)の行為は批判する人を罰し、言論の自由を弾圧するトランプ氏の取り組みの一環だ。知識人を含め、全アメリカ人が憂慮する言論の犠牲に関する問題だ。私の原則は、単なる情報管理以上に大事なものだ。私は決して後退しない。* intelligence professionals は「知識層、知識階級」を指します。

権力濫用 a stunning abuse of power だ、悪しき前例 dangerous precedent だ、unfounded and outrageous allegations 根拠なき馬鹿げた主張だ等々、色々な批判の声も上がってきそうですが、どうなるでしょうか！* allegation もよく出てきますが、「意見、主張」のことです。
